Tapestry of Texture

TEXTILE DESIGN PROJECT LAUNCH

Tapestry of Texture" is a collection of 12 textile designs inspired by botanical motifs, with a focus on lush foliage. This theme draws inspiration from the WGSN Plantopia trend and the beauty of my own home garden. Foliage has been a recurring theme throughout my degree, and this collection takes a deeper dive into that passion. The illustration and motif development involved a range of traditional techniques, including pencil sketching, watercolour, and gouache on 300gsm rough watercolour paper, as well as gel plate printing on 50gsm calligraphy paper with acrylic paint. Each piece was then meticulously scanned and refined in Photoshop to prepare it for digital printing. This combination of hand-drawn, analogue methods gives the digital designs a rich, textured quality that embodies the spirit of handcrafted artistry.

After extensive experimentation, the designs were carefully edited down to 12 final pieces for this maximalist collection, created with a bold, fashion-forward vision where patterns are meant to clash and play together. The designs have been digitally printed on natural fabrics, including silk crepe de chine, silk twill, linen, silk georgette, silk linen voile, and denim. Printing techniques included a Mutoh digital printer with water-based pigment inks as well as digital printing with reactive dyes.

The collection is arranged into three colour stories. Please scroll down to explore each one.
